How to Keep a Level Head in an Evil World

Recent news, and files have been shown to the public eye of horrifying things about this world. Things that I am not brave enough, nor knowledgeable enough to report from any point of authority. I find myself unable to talk to others about this who, like everyone, desire to be happy and carefree. I see people purposely ignoring news that is jarring and uncomfortable because they're happy in the dark. But, I can't blame them, as its only human to want that. Who am I to tell them otherwise? So, in order to stay sane in this world, I break my mindset up into a couple sections; Morality, Reliability, and Realism, and I encourage you to follow suit.

1. Morality

In my life, the emotion I've felt the most is guilt. So I'm very sensitive to doing the wrong thing. For my mental health, I have to establish my moral compass, and follow it. Many people get by with doublethink, as long as they don't think about it too hard. I encourage that you make a list of the things that you value the most, and every so often, question whether your actions line up with the items on that list. It's very important that you're honest. If you care more about honesty than kindness, show it. If you care more about competition than equality, then own it, but you have to decide for yourself.

2. Reliability

While your moral compass decides what you do each day as a baseline, there will inevitably be something that gets you out of your comfort zone to do what's right. Believing that personal health is the most important responsibility, but sacrificing sleep and food to get work done is slacking on yourself, and your honor.

3. Realism

If you put on your list "positivity" but you keep finding yourself complaining, maybe that's just not what you care about, either fix your list, or find out what the problem is. Nobody's perfect, so stop pretending that you are better than you are, unless you're actively improving. Come to terms with who you are, what you support, and why.

To keep your head on straight, you have to know who you are, and keep true to yourself. Make sure that when your character is tested, you have the self-knowledge to stand the test.
